Product Description
Part novel, part survivalist-handbook, Patriots tells of a small group of friends facing every American's worst nightmare—the total collapse of society. The stock market plummets and hyperinflation cripples commerce and then a seemingly isolated financial crisis passes the tipping point when an unprepared government fails to act. Practically overnight, the fragile institutions of democracy fall apart and every American is forced to survive on their own.
Evading mobs of desperate, out-of-control citizens who have turned Chicago into a wasteland of looting and mayhem, this novel's protagonists make their way to a shared secure ranch in the wilds of northern Idaho. Here the survival-driven group fends off vicious attacks from the outside and eventually assists in restoring order to the country. The compelling, fast-paced action-adventure novel has readers jotting notes and referencing the book's impressive index for informative survivalist tips on everything from setting up a secure shelter to treating traumatic flesh wounds.

| Customer Reviews: Excellent book!!! March 9, 2010 Brandon Gilmore (Washington, DC) This book is awesome! If you are a fan fan of Rawles this is a must have. I first heard of Patriots before the reprint and was very interested. As soon as I opened the book I was hooked. I don't think I put the book down for two days. The detail that Rawles goes into in this book is incredible. The man really knows his stuff. Also the way that glossary is set up is wonderful. Anything you need to find in a real life situation is in there. This book is a great read and a survival manual in one!
A bit too preachy... March 8, 2010 Jerod Ray 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is good, if you can get past the overly-christian theme. it's very apparent that the author was in the military, but has zero relevant combat experience. had he experience in serious urban warfare, he'd know not to give all the characters "colt .45s", haha...being that colt is by and far the least reliable of all 1911 models, and 45 ammo is heavy, with minimal performance. regardless...the characters, lacking any combat experience, definitely don't lack experience with praying...they do it all the time. that's probably a good idea when you're only armed with colt-brand firearms. :)
Survival book or extremist christian guidebook? March 7, 2010 Sir. Vive (Annapolis, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book because im a fan of apocalyptic fiction and this had the tone of being a serious survival novel mixed in. First let me give you a brief overview of the book; this book is about a group of friends all with normal jobs in different backgrounds. These friends all share a passion for survival as well as an uppity obsession with christianity. They escape to their mutual survival compound right before every goes to hell and the remainder of the novel illustrates their time spent there and their run in with various groups that happen to pass by their compound. However after about 3 chapters into the book you quickly realize that this book is nothing more than a platform or soapbox for the authors views. Im not going to lie there is alot of useful information in this book that most people probably are not aware of but this information could be gleaned from any number of other more useful survival novels. The author mentions religion and faith at least twice in every chapter and not only is it annoying but it distracts from the overall story and in come cases is outright laughable. Im reminded of one conversation between two main characters that are discussing the recent romantic development between two of the younger members of the compound (An ROTC cadet age 22 and a new members daughter age 17). The two share a growing concern that the two youths are getting romantically involved which could involve a sexual relationship, one of them then states that "im not worried about the two of them their both good christians im sure they will wait until their married"...I mean honestly the world is falling apart and your worried about two kids having sex? dont make me laugh.
Furthermore, every main character they run into all happen to have similar religious views, their all "god fearing christians". The fact is that the author simply mentions all of this religion mumjo jumbo so much that the it makesw the book seem more like a soapbox than anything else. This book is to be found on the bookshelves of every right wing bible thumping gun nut in the nation. And as a note to the authorm im sorry to say but theres going to be plenty of people surviving any potentioal coming collaps and living in similar compunds who are not going to be the least bit religious and they will be doing just as much good for their neighbors as the religious wackos would. and P.S. living with a significant other without being married is not living and sin and sex before marriage is more than ok nowadays its encouraged :)
On a last note: some of the tactical mishaps of the group are completely laughable as well. For example they have non-military members in their group talking in military jargon over the radio thats not realistic at all. Second, theres a part in the book where their northwest milita meet up with members of another militia within the same region as theirs. Their "leader" todd makes the massive tactical blunder of A)not bringing any other members with him to provide overwatch from a distance to make sure they werent going to be lulled into a trap and B) He informs the other milita of how many able bodied personell they have back at their compound!! I dont know about you but what modern military tells a potential enemy how many man you have that are combat ready? STUPID!
Save your money and buy the other book by this author, dont let him reach you on his soapbox with this one.
Too churchy March 4, 2010 Elijah Wolfe (SISSETON, SD, US) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found I knew a lot of the information presented in this book as someone fairly informed on survival practices in the first place.I learned a few new things about survival as well, however. The story is weak, as are the character creation and general narration. The information is interesting though. The thing that bugged me the most is the authors constant interjection of conservative christian beliefs and jargon. The militia in the book will let noone join their group that isn't a conservative christian, that seems very un-christian like to me. It just takes away from the rest of the book in my opinion, and gets annoying in it's repetition. Obviously this person is a survivalist and conservative christian first and a writer distant second.
Excellent content and so pertinent for todays citizens March 1, 2010 Charles Carlton 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow, what an eye opening. This book, I've actually bought 2 - 1 for a friend, is a great fictioal story that may not be too off base considering today's circumstances. I'm more of a technical type reader, but I couldn't put this down. I read it in less than a week, fast for me anyway. The author has an excellent grasp of today's situations and the tech talk about all of the weaponry, skill types and so much more was right on the money. I have a friend that knows all there is to know about weapons, and he had to have a copy. What little bit of mine he read impressed him very much. I bought him a copy and he is almost through the book in just a few days.
I would recommend this book to all of my patriotic freinds.
