Product Description In the small town of Dogwood, West Virginia, Karin has buried her shattered dreams by settling for a faithful husband whose emotional distance from her deep passions and conflicts leaves her isolated. Loaded with guilt, she tries to raise three small children and "do life" the best she can. Will returns to Dogwood intent on pursuing the only woman he has ever loved--only to find there is far more standing in his way than lost years in prison. The secrets of Will and Karin's past begin to emerge through Danny Boyd, a young boy who wishes he hadn't survived the tragedy that knit those two together as well as tore them apart. The trigger that will lay their pain bare and force them to face it rather than flee is the unlikely figure of Ruthie Bowles, a withered, wiry old woman who leads Karin so deep into her anger against God that it forces unexpected consequences.

The best book I've read this year!!!! November 20, 2008 Vanessa Vinos (Seville, Spain) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read many, many books a month, but this HAS to be the best I've read this year. It will have you sitting on the edge of your seat throughout, and I defy anyone to guess the twists that come at the end. Altho' this is listed as Christian Fiction, don't let the non-religious amongst you be put off. This is more a book about human characteristics/emotions i.e forgiveness, retribution, sacrifice, greed, love etc etc. Read this book. It will stay with you for a long time after readng the final page.
Great Christian book! November 17, 2008 Nancy (West Chicago, IL) I loved this book and could not put it down until the surprise ending arrived! I fell totally in love with all the characters and especially loved the author's sense of humor throughout the book. Awesome!
Utterly Blown Away! November 15, 2008 C. Fontenot 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an avid reader, and Dogwood is one of the best books I have ever read. I could not put it down! The story is simply beautiful, especially for someone who had a first love that they never quite got over. It is a story of extraordinary love as well as a story of hope and faith. Mr. Fabry did a wonderful job of intertwining the lives of the characters so that I was compelled to keep reading to learn about the relationships between the characters. The plot took such a surprising twist at the end that it took my breath away for a moment. I loved the book and I highly recommend it.
A book by its cover... November 14, 2008 Sherry Parmelee (Grayslake, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What if, just once, you really could tell a book by its cover? A quiet country road that entices you to follow where it beckons, promising a journey you'll never forget. Sunshine and shadow that dapple the lives of Will and Karin, each battling a personal darkness and longing to fully emerge into the light. The rich colors of a West Virginia springtime that capture the beauty of a love that has bloomed and remains everlasting, refusing to fade with time. Two little girls walking hand in hand toward a fate that none would choose, but that love and sacrifice will somehow manage to redeem... I stepped through the cover of "Dogwood" into a world which quickly became my own, drawing me into the lives and hearts of Will and Karin, Danny, and Bobby Ray, their voices speaking their stories as only they could tell them. Strangely, mysteriously, the road twisted, straightened, and twisted again, until finally reaching its appointed end--where all was not as it once had seemed, and I could only look back in wonder at the intricate weaving of tragedy, hope, sorrow, loss, faith, and relentless love. I closed the cover, changed somehow by my journey to this place called Dogwood--and, opening it again, set off once more down that quiet country road, with wiser eyes and more knowing heart, to revisit the scenes I'd passed through before, and to learn from them anew. If you haven't yet ventured down the road that leads to Dogwood, why not come along? I think you'll be amazed at what you'll find there.
Deserves a place on every bookshelf November 11, 2008 Rel Mollet (Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Will Hatfield is returning to Dogwood intent on making his dreams a reality, after paying his debt to society with 12 years in Clarkston Prison. A house up the hill on his parents property and a life with Karin, the one love of his life. Will discovers many obstacles to the contented life he has spent his years in prison dreaming of. The people of Dogwood want him gone. To leave town or even dead would suit them just fine. The one or two people willing to give him a second chance are no match for the tide of opinion. Karin has moved on with her life. Three children and married to the Pastor, she has settled for safe and faithful rather than a life driven by her youthful dreams and passions. Karin isolates herself in the life she has created, trying to escape the guilt that burdens her. Ruthie Bowles is the one woman who can get to the truth of Karin's burden and help her heal. The old wiry wizened woman sets off the healing Karin needs and is the one in whom Will confides his tragic secret. Chris Fabry is a gifted wordsmith, penning this heart wrenching tale with great skill. He has a beautifully descriptive style with well developed characters and plot. `Dogwood' is written in the first person, with one character per chapter. While I struggle to get my head around this format each time I encounter it, experience has taught me these novels are worthwhile persisting with. `Dogwood' was certainly worth the perseverance that the early chapters required of me. Chris tackles issues such as second chances after prison, forgiveness and healing, wrapping them up within the tale of each character and making them tangible and real to the reader. The issues and circumstances that Will faces are heartbreaking and tragic. His path is an uphill battle. And yet, he sets about reclaiming his life quietly, one step at a time. His determination and perspective is inspiring. He goes out of his way not to upset those who would see him shot dead in the blink of an eye, and yet the townsfolk are not content to let him be. Karin's story seems simple and straightforward but Chris has left the most revealing secrets until the very final pages of `Dogwood'. For Karin, nothing is as it seems. Her bland passionless existence is the clue I completely missed. Chris Fabry's debut into adult fiction deserves a place on every bookshelf. Reviewed by Tracy @ RelzReviewz
