Product Description Helping men rediscover their masculine heart, this guide to understanding Christian manhood and Christian men offers a refreshing break from the chorus of voices urging men to be more responsible,
Amazon.com Review If Christian men are going to change from a pitiful, wimpy bunch of "really nice guys" to men who are made in the image of God, they must reexamine their preconceptions about who God is and recover their true "wild" hearts, writes bestselling author John Eldredge in Wild at Heart: Discovering a Life of Passion, Freedom, and Adventure. Eldredge throws down the gauntlet--men are bored; they fear risk, they refuse to pay attention to their deepest desires. He challenges Christian men to return to authentic masculinity without resorting to a "macho man" mentality. Men often seek validation in venues such as work, or in the conquest of women, Eldredge observes. He urges men to take time out and come to grips with the "secret longings" of their hearts. Although the book succeeds best in its slant toward a male audience, it also strives to help women understand the implications of authentic masculinity in their relationships with men. Eldredge frames the book around his outdoor experiences and appealing anecdotes about his family, sprinkling the text with touches of humor and overlying everything with heartfelt passion. Even as he mixes eclectic ideas about masculinity from popular movies such as Braveheart with classic words from Oswald Chambers, and lyrics from the Dixie Chicks with stories from the Bible, he points to only one answer for men searching for their true wildness of heart. Writes Eldredge, "The only way to live in this adventure ... with all its danger and unpredictability and immensely high stakes ... is in an ongoing, intimate relationship with God." --Cindy Crosby

| Customer Reviews: A Great read for Men AND Women! September 9, 2010 Carly Edwards (Arkansas) I read Captivating by John and his wife a few years ago and really enjoyed how it delved deep into the woman's true yearning for a hero. It wasn't fake, it wasn't preachy, it was just true. I expected nothing less from this book geared towards boys and I got nothing less. While I am a female reader I still enjoyed it- if anything it gave me some insight and the ability to have maybe a little more understanding about the heart of man. Right after I got finished reading it I gave it to one of my good guy friends to read and pass on, because its too good not to share!
fantastic gift August 27, 2010 Danielle Gawronski (Albuquerque, NM) I appreciate and like John Eldredge's style and personal insight from other books of his I have read. There is a refreshing honesty and genuineness about his writing and illustrations. It is a balanced commentary on Christian living firmly rooted in scripture. I bought this book for a gift for a close friend who was really seeking to be a man after God's own heart. Needless to say, my friend was challenged and encouraged to draw closer to the heart of God and he has a hard time putting the book down. When he is done I'm going to read it. I also recommend for all the women reading "Captivating" by John and Stacey Eldredge. THen swapping so you can have a better understanding of the opposite sex.
Wild at Heart August 22, 2010 Krista Whisner (Colorado) Have you ever wanted to know what a man is thinking? What is in his heart and soul? I have and I am sure many of you have felt the same way.
I read Captivating and is coauthored by John Eldredge; it is about the story of a woman's heart and I was so inspired by the book that I knew I had to read Wild at Heart Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul By John Eldredge. I just had to know what they said about a man's heart and soul.
From the first paragraph I was captivated. I could not put the book down. I spent an entire afternoon reading and highlighting the parts that I wanted my husband to read. I also enjoyed many parts of the book and they have helped me to understand my husband, dad and brothers. It is such a wonderful and inspiring book. My husband is now reading the parts I highlighted and after he is finished I plan on handing the book over to my mom. If you are like me and want to know what inspires a man or what they are truly thinking than I encourage you to read this wonderful book!
I was provided with a copy of this book for purpose of this review. All thoughts expressed are my own and may vary from others. Thank you Thomas Nelson publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.
Wild at Heart by John Eldredge August 22, 2010 S. McQuaid (Florida) This is a wonderful book. The Author, John Eldredge, does a great job describing the need for men to be masculine. How are the physical embodiment of God's masculine side. He describes their need for "adventure." He also looks at the loss of "becoming a man" in today's society by the lack of fatherhood and over protectiveness of mothers.
I must say, I loved this book. It really opened my eyes to how I as a help meet (soul mate) should encourage and support my husband on his adventures to a masculine heart.
This book also look at how women are the feminine side of God and how we crave the attention and "white knight" to come and find us just as God craves us to fight for him.
All in all this book was a huge eye opener in the a deeper level of support in the wife husband dynamic. I will truly take a lot a way from this book and apply it in our lives.
Note: I was given a complimentary copy of the book to review. This review is my own opinion and I was in no way compensated for a good review.
Great resource! August 18, 2010 A. Updike (Mesa, AZ USA) I was very excited to receive this book from Booksneeze, the companion volume to Captivating. Written by John Eldredge, it claims to unlock the secret to a man's soul. I could tell from the very beginning that my husband would identify with this book and hope to get him to read the pair. Together I think they provide a good perspective on making a relationship work between two very different kind of people (because like the authors said in both books, we are certainly different, but God made us that way!) The Christian insight was also appreciated. Good read!
