| Customer Reviews: Could not even finish this book August 24, 2010 dissapointed This book was a complete disappointment. According to my kindle, I got around 75% done with the book and finally gave up. His stream of consciousness writing is confusing and boring all at the same time. Usually we want to get in the authors head, in this case all i wanted was out. He does not develop his characters at all and instead expects the reader to know the people he casually mentions throughout the book as if we had been old friends. Also, to be honest, I did not believe many of his stories. When he recalls interactions with people in his past and gives their supposed conversations, it is flat out unbelievable. I understand an author must paraphrase occasionally, but human beings just don't interact or talk like that. Sorry Donald, you may be fooling all those people who reach out to your books looking for some key to help them unlock their faith, but you failed miserably with this book. And that is coming from a Christian.
Liked it August 20, 2010 ashley d watson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I liked the point of view. A bit too many "I"s in the book.
Good Read August 20, 2010 GaGal71 (Macon, GA) I enjoyed this book very much. I like the way he writes and I agree with so much of what he says...my only issue is the references to drinking, which may really trip up young Christians...alcohol ruins lives like any other drug. I understand he is being real about who he is though, and I appreciate that.
an excellent read for believers and "seekers" August 3, 2010 L. Hood (Goldthwaite, TX --USA) An engaging and extremely honest look at what it means to be a follower of Jesus, including some fairly indicting judgments on the Church and Christians in general. Because we don't love and accept others where they are, is it any wonder, they aren't flocking to the church doors? I would highly recommend this book! It is thought provoking and inspiring--one of a handful of books I will certainly re-read. I've ordered copies for friends, too.
surprising discovery August 1, 2010 CoastalgirlSF (SF Bay Area, CA) I had never heard of this author before nor read any of his other work, but I feel blessed to have stumbled upon Don Miller and this book. Am looking forward to reading more current books and learning more about this guy.
