If you have read the story of the prodigal son and never really "got it" - READ THIS BOOK. It takes that story and sheds light that you can apply to your life today. Great, great read!

This book is amazing. It is a quick easy read with phenomenal points. It really reveals the heart of God by taking a deeper look into a, perhaps, too well known parable. I highly recommend it.

When I originally read the title and subtitle of this book I was expecting something much different than what Keller actually wrote about. Tim Keller is going to walk through Luke 15 and the familiar story (to many) of "The Prodigal Son" or as he we call it and it should probably be call "The Tale of Two Sons". Keller helps us to remember that when reading this passage we need to not get emotional wrapped up in the fact that the father rejoices and welcomes back the wayward son the squandered all of his inheritance. He points us to the fact that typically we run here and shout, "SEE GOD CAN FORGIVE ANYBODY NO MATTER WHAT THE SIN IS, HE WELCOMES ALL". But the problem is that is not the end of the story. The gospel is for ears of all nations and people groups, and yes your sin is never too much that Jesus atoning death can not (or potentially did not) satisfy God's wrath on your behalf. But Keller wants us to look at the second son...the one who was "obedient" to the father and stayed and didn't squander his wealth and did all his father asked him, did he have a heart that rejoiced and loved his father like the wayward son that was welcomed home....NO!!!!
That is the point of this book. "Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith" is what the subtitle states...individuals that adhere to biblical Christianity do not believe that God owes them anything, and that their obedience is a response, a joyful response our of a heart of the acceptance God has expressed to them. In Luke 15, the son that stays home is disgusted with his father that he has shown such grace to his brother, because his brother hasn't been obedient like he has been.
This book is to call the hearts of all us within the Christian faith that see our faith not granted by the Prodigal (profuse expenditure/lavished) God's grace but instead earned or deserved because of continued obedience to Him. Conservative Christian obedience means nothing if we do not have a heart that loves Jesus Christ and all that he desires.
Pick this up and one other to recommend that is similar is by John MacArthur, "The Tale of Two Sons"
